The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA – formerly referred to as the RCIA [Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults]) is a process for becoming a Roman Catholic for adults who have not been baptized, or who have been validly baptized into another Christian tradition.  This journey into the Catholic faith takes a number of months and is not confined to a particular time of the year. Interested individuals from the Oberlin and Wellington communities gather on a somewhat bi-weekly basis at either Sacred Heart (Oberlin) OR St. Patrick (Wellington) parish; the location, date, and times of the gatherings are based upon the preferences and schedules of those participating in the OCIA process.  The first gathering, however, is typically scheduled for a Sunday morning – following the 10:30am Mass at Sacred Heart.  While this initial meeting date changes from year to year, the first meeting for the 2026-2027 OCIA journey will be Sunday, August 23, 2026 at 11:45am in the Education Building at Sacred Heart.

For those participating in the 2026-2027 OCIA journey, we’ll be journeying via a combination of in-person and on-line processes; the online serving as seed-material for the discussions and conversations that will take place in-person.  Additionally, you will likely find Dr. Brant Pitre’s videos on the Mass quite helpful to understanding some of the how’s, why’s and what’s of the Catholic Mass; you can peruse them by clicking here.
