Pope Leo XIV’s Connection to Spanish Civil War Martyrs, Valley of the Fallen

As prior of the Augustinians (below, in a white shirt), in 2003 Leo XIV visited the Valley of the Fallen with a group of young people.

On Jan. 1, 1938, Bishop Polanco celebrated his last Mass at the Teruel seminary and was arrested eight days later, remaining a prisoner of the Republican forces for 13 months.
